How to Throw a Football Spiral

When you throw a football, the worst thing that can happen is the ball coming off your fingers and flopping through the air. A poorly thrown pass is not only harder for your receiver to catch, but it also looks terrible. For the greatest success, it is vital to get the ball to your receiver with a tight spiral.
First: Grip the football
It is important to grip the football correctly if you wish to throw a spiral. Place your index finger and thumb as close to the back of the football as possible. Your other fingers should sit directly over the laces, gripping it tightly.
Second: Spread your feet
Just as it is important to grip the ball correctly, it is also essential that your feet are spread correctly. Bring your feet to just under shoulder-width apart, extending the leg located on your non-dominant side in front of you. Ensure that the lower portion of your body is balanced so you do not lean during your throw.
Third: Begin the throwing motion
Start the process of throwing the ball by rotating your hips and planting your back foot firmly into the ground. Your back foot provides you with the power you need to get the ball to the receiver.
Fourth: Bring the ball back
Begin rotating your hips, and bring the ball directly behind your head to where it nearly touches your face. Take care to ensure your elbow remains in toward your body.
Fifth: Throw the ball
Throw the football by hurling your arm forward, releasing the ball from your thumb first followed by your index finger. As you are releasing these fingers, rotate your wrist slightly to where your palm is facing the ground when the release is completed.
